Centra Specialty Hospital is a 36-bed long term acute care hospital providing clinical services to patients who require an extended stay in an acute care setting. Located on the fifth floor of Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital's campus, we specialize in the care of patients with complex extended medical needs. Patients are referred to Centra Specialty Hospital for continuation of acute medical care because the severity and complexity of their medical condition prevents them from being discharged home or transferred to a rehab unit or skilled nursing facility.
How is Centra Specialty Hospital different from a traditional hospital?
The biggest difference is in the specialization. Centra Specialty Hospital specializes in Long Term Acute Care services, such as complex nursing care, respiratory care, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Traditional hospitals offer many general services such as emergency rooms, maternity wards, outpatient clinics and other services not provided at Centra Specialty Hospital.
