- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI and MRA) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a very powerful magnet and sophisticated computer algorithms to create detailed images of your internal organs. It is complementary to CT Imaging and has revolutionized the practice of radiology. No radiation is used. Certain MRI scans require the use of intravenous contrast. To ensure patient safety, a detailed safety questionnaire must be completed to determine whether or not a patient can safely undergo an MRI.
- Computed tomography imaging (CT) CT scanning is sometimes also called CAT scanning. It is a non-invasive exam performed in an open doughnut-shaped machine where radiation is used to produce data. Sophisticated computers create detailed images of the internal organs which would normally not be visible. Depending on the type of CT, intravenous and/or oral contrasts may be used as a method to obtain detailed angiographic images.
- CT Lung Cancer Screening A low dose CT machine takes images of the chest during a single breath-hold which can detect lung cancer much earlier than a chest x-ray.
- CT Colonography Virtual colonoscopy is a non-invasive CT technique to visualize your colon. No anesthesia, intravenous line, or colonoscopy is required. Air is introduced into your colon for accurate images to be obtained.
- Ultrasounds Ultrasound, also known as sonography, used sound waves to see inside the body to examine the internal organs. Ultrasound does not emit ionizing radiation; therefore, it is considered very safe and painless for everyone, including children and pregnant women.
- Ultrasound-Guided Thyroid Biopsy An ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration biopsy uses sound waves to help locate a nodule or abnormality within the thyroid and remove a tissue sample for examination under a microscope. The procedure is less invasive than surgical biopsy, leaves little or no scarring, and does not involve exposure to ionizing radiation.
- X-rays X-rays are mild doses of radiation used to create images of the bones that allows our Board Certified Radiologists to evaluate your skeletal system and gastrointestinal tract.
- Bone density testing Bone Densitometry, also known as DEXA, takes x-rays of the hip and/or spine to calculate the density of bones and determine whether osteoporosis is present.
- Fluoroscopy The study of moving body structures–similar to an X-ray “movie.” A continuous X-ray beam is passed through the body part being examined. The beam is transmitted to a TV-like monitor so that the body part and its motion can be seen in detail.
- Joint Arthrograms Contrast material is injected into the joint under x-ray guidance after which images are taken with x-ray and MRI or CT to diagnose any abnormalities.
