In March of 2023, Centra’s multi-year modernization plan was announced. This initiative encompasses the most significant facility improvements and capital investments in Centra’s history. As a multi-faceted plan, it will address different needs found within our community based on findings from the 2021 Community Health Needs Assessment.
Since this announcement was made, there has been exciting progress made on the Centra Langhorne Medical Center and Centra Simons Run Medical Campus in addition to parking lot and wayfinding work at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.
Centra Langhorne Medical Center
Construction of the Centra Langhorne Medical Center has been underway since the groundbreaking ceremony that was held in March 2024. Located at the intersection of Langhorne Road and Tate Springs Road, this five-story medical office building will bring together multiple specialty clinics, offering centralized access to diverse healthcare services for the Lynchburg community. The facility supports Centra’s vision of improving care access and is a key milestone in Centra’s modernization plan. The facility is expected to be completed by the fall of 2025.
Centra Simons Run Medical Campus:
Set to open in 2026, the new campus will expand access to specialized behavioral health and rehabilitation services. This project is a collaboration between Centra and Lifepoint Health affiliates, including Lifepoint Behavioral Health and Lifepoint Rehabilitation. The campus will house two state-of-the-art hospitals:
- Centra Behavioral Health Hospital: A 75,000-square-foot, 72-bed facility offering a therapeutic environment for patients with mental health needs. The hospital will provide both inpatient and outpatient services, with features like open community spaces, courtyards and advanced clinical areas to enhance the patient and family experience.
- Centra Rehabilitation Hospital: A 50-bed facility designed for patients needing acute rehabilitation for conditions like brain and spinal cord injuries. Equipped with therapy gyms and outdoor spaces, the hospital will also feature a secure unit for brain injury patients, supporting safe, multidisciplinary recovery. These facilities will replace inpatient units currently at Centra Virginia Baptist Hospital. Construction on both hospitals began in the third quarter of 2024. Centra Lynchburg General Hospital (LGH) Parking, Tower and Wayfinding Enhancements
- Wayfinding Enhancements: In August, Centra completed updates to LGH’s room numbering and tower designations. These modifications aim to improve navigation across the LGH campus, enhancing the experience for patients, visitors and Caregivers. Permanent signage that incorporates regional themes selected by Caregivers and the community and reflects the updated numbering system. This is expected to be installed in the next year.
- Parking Expansions: To accommodate the growing LGH campus, new parking spaces have been added, including areas equipped with EV charging stations. Additionally, a new employee parking area is projected to open in the spring of 2025.
